of the gang of pirates which made the recent attempt on the

5.8."Tai On" and which pirated the 8.8."ching Wa' on the 24th

March, 1914, the 8.5."American" on the 26th October, 1915, the

5.8."Kwong Chau Tan" on the 9th December, 1913, and the 8.8.

"Shing Tai" on the 31st March, 1914, were at Fo.14 Sam Pa Tan!

and 10.6 Fan Chong Hiu at Macao. The leaders of the gang

Leung Young, Kwok Teat and Tan Igan all lived at Macao, while

a man named Ko Kau resident in Hongkong used to visit Macao to

attend meetings of the leaders there. Lemg Young who wounded

in the attack on the "Tai On" and is now in oustedy in Hongkong

awaiting extradition to China.

It can be proved that many of the arms of the

pirates were kept at Lemg Teung's house at No.15, Bui Tai Wai,

Maono, and that the arms used on board the 8.8."Shing Tai" and

the 8.8."Tail On" were sent over from Macao to Hongkong and

conveyed upon those vessels by accomplices on board of them.

It is also in evidence that the spoils of the piracy of the

8.8,"ghing Tai" and of other steamara vere taken to Taono to

be there divided. Moreover all the pirates who were not

members of the crew of the "Shing Tai" and the "Tai On" oame

ever from Macao and mbarked on those vessels in Hongkong.

It is the fuot also that the members of the gang

were in the habit of spending the proceeds of their crimes in

the gambling houses in Ysono, and I regret to have to add that

there is little doubt that hugh money ms given by the members

of the gang to Leting Vai, a Portuguese Soliciter's Clark in

Xacao, and to Chinese detectives Lau Hong Sin and Tan Ngan Chi

(which is a nick name) of the Maono Police.

I am informed on good antherity that after the

arrest at Macao of the nine pirates concerned in the recent

attack on the 8.8."Tai Oz", about eighty bad obaracters fled

from Hasao. I am also informed from various sources that a

Chinese nazei Wang King Fun of Ho Lan Un in Maono advances

funds to pirates to enable them to carry out their designs. It
